FEEDING STREET DOGS

Our commitment to feeding stray dogs has persisted for the past 7 years and has been further intensified in response to the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.. As an outreach activity, we provide sustenance for nearly 200 dogs in and around Gurgaon. Every morning, our team embarks on a feeding mission, starting from Palam Vihar and continuing to various locations such as Maruti Industrial Area, Sector 50, Sector 46, Sector 29, HUDA City Centre, Signature Tower, Kadipur Industrial Area, Gurgaon Court and administrative complex and other nearby areas in Delhi. In addition, we also ensure the daily feeding of over 25 dogs in the vicinity of our shelter.

RESCUE & REHABILITATION

Since the establishment of our shelter, we have been operating a free-of-charge Out Patient Department (OPD) to cater to the healthcare needs of cows and dogs. Our OPD operates daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and serves animals from approximately 15 neighboring villages. The majority of beneficiaries that avail our free OPD services come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. We focus on the overall well-being of our patient and our objective goes way beyond immediate rescue and providing clinical treatment. We are committed to rehabilitating the animals in our care, providing them a safe haven at our shelter until they fully recover and can be successfully reintegrated into their natural environment.

VETERINARY SERVICES

Through the years, people from villages nearby have been frequently bringing their animals to us for treatment and avail the veterinary services that SFHA provides. Once the animals receive the necessary care and medical intervention, they take them back home. In cases where frequent check-ups are required, they even bring their animals to our OPD on a daily basis. In addition to providing para-veterinary care, our OPD also offers free vaccinations to the animals in our care. Also, all the shelter animals are vaccinated every year. This helps in saving their lives from life-threatening conditions such as rabies and canine distemper. SHFA also performs the very important function of sterilization of the dogs thereby strengthening the Animal Birth Control policy of the Government of India.

ADVOCACY

Our founder, Saptarshi Roy, possesses valuable legal expertise and field activism in the realm of animal welfare in India. Leveraging this knowledge, he has filed numerous applications under the Right to Information (RTI) Act of 2005, primarily focused on addressing the plight of animals within the country. These RTI applications have been submitted to 22 municipal corporations nationwide specifically seeking information regarding the status of stray pigs and their care and rehabilitation.
Furthermore, in the states of Kerala and Karnataka, we have filed RTIs with municipal corporations and SPCAs (Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), specifically concerning the methods employed for the sterilization of street dogs. It has come to our attention that major cities such as Bengaluru and Thiruvananthapuram lack dedicated dog sterilization centers, which has been an eye-opening revelation.
Saptarshi has also filed many cases against animal cruelty in the courts of Gurgaon, Hissar and Mewat thereby saving hundreds of camels and buffaloes from illegal trafficking.
